Ok so we all love it I know, but what things do you not like about it? I'd like it to be very easy for all to use, and have everything you need. So feedback is great!

So far there is not anything I don't like, just a lot I have to get used to.

The one feature I really liked in the old forum, is that I had it set to only show topics that had posts I had not read yet. It's not really an issue with the few topics we have not, but as we get more topics it would be nice to have that ability.

You can kind of do that sharon, by using the New Posts (http://forums.startxchange.com/search.php?do=getnew) link at the top of the forum - it will display all the unread posts and which forum they are in.

Does this help?

Tim,

Truth be told, I am not a fan of orange, so it has taken me a few days to get used to the new look. :)

i must admit I am finding it hard to tell the difference between the red of the unread posts and the orange of the read posts is there anyway that this can be changed?

You can use the http://forums.startxchange.com/images/ca_evo2_orange/statusicon/thread_new.gif to identify threads that have not been read :)

It's not a matter of like or dislike, it's new and different and I just have to start a new learning curve for this forum when I hadn't really learned the old one very good.

Maybe a tutorial is in order

I like it. It always takes a while to reorient yourself. Has given me a chance to use a new photo, showing the ravages of age.

Sherwood - Sorry about that! I think moving to this forum will help many learn faster. It's a popular script, so some already know the ins and outs by heart. But for those who don't, since it's popular it's easier to get help as more people know how to use it.

What kind of things are you looking to do? I bet Richard will post something really good soon, he's good at that =P

LOL

sherwood, whatever you think your learning curve is, mine is steeper - I have to learn the answers to questions I never thought of to a forum script I have never used :)

but, hey - it's fun :D

seriously - if you have questions - please do ask, I may not know the answer, but I sure will try to find it for you (I discovered a few sneaky resources in researching this forum :))

Unfortunately, the new posts thing doesn't work as well. It doesn't clear the threads that you've already looked at from the list.

Clicking "New Posts" upon logging in should show you the posts you haven't yet read. It's always worked well for me. :)

Sharon,

that is odd - because I use the New Posts to keep me up to date - I read a post and click new posts to take me back to the (updated) list.

Possibly it could be a cookie / cache issue - your browser is caching the old page instead of loading it new from the server each time. Try setting your cache settings to always load from server / zero cache depending on your browser. (you may have to clear the cache to make it work)

the fact that it doesnt default to the you have a new private message screen (when you have one) if you refresh the screen insisting on shoving under my nose every post I read was so annoying!

To toggle this option, you can go to your User Control Panel (http://forums.startxchange.com/usercp.php) and then select Options. under Private Messaging you can select the following options:
enable/disable PMs - this is the first option
restrict PMs to buddies, admin and moderators - this is the second option
receive email notifications of PMs - this is the third option
enable/disable a popup notification when in the forum of unread PMs - this is the fourth option
If you do not want to send or receive private messages, you may disable the private messaging system.
Enable Private Messaging

You may limit the receipt of private messages to just moderators and those on your buddy list (http://forums.startxchange.com/profile.php?do=editlist). Other members who attempt to send messages to you will be told that you have disabled private messaging.
Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators

The forum can send a message to your email address to inform you when someone sends you a private message.
Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages

If you are browsing the forums when you receive a new private message, the system can pop-up a notification box informing you of the new message.
Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up

Hope this helps :)

You can find a list of all new posts by clicking on the New Posts (http://forums.startxchange.com/search.php?do=getnew) link at the top of the forum. It will present the new posts in a paged format :)

I am still navigating my way around this new forum so far I love it....no seriously it is great. I really like the new PM that I can send to a few people at a time and that I can BCC a message if I want and that messages break down into days to make them easier to find. Can't wait for the old Forum to close as you have to go to the old forum to check messages as some are still using that. But it will not be long till it is out with the old and in with the new.

Doing a great Jog Tim and Richard keep up the fantastic work, continual improvement keeps things fresh, alive and vibrant as opposed to keeping things to the same old same old when they become stagnant.

I'm enjoying and learning the new forum, Tim. I'm new here (saw the value of upgrading immediately btw) so for me it may be a bit easier since I didn't become attached to the old forum.

Keep up the good work - and thanks!

Scott

After looking around a while, the new forum seem easier to learn than the old one. Plus after reading some of the other questions, it is easier to see where everything is located - guess it's just not easy to accept change at first after you get a certain age LOL

Thanks

I try not to ask question that may seem "slow" and I don't like to click buttons that I don't know what they mean. So I am a little slow about asking questions sometimes. I had wondered how to get my picture with the posted message. I saw your answer to another member so now I have the picture (didn't know what User CP meant, so I would not have clicked on it).

Dear friend,
all of us have to learn it, doesn't matter the age or anything else, by clicking, asking, or just by trying to use it.

Anyway your idea of a tutorial is a very good one.

I also agree with Sherwood,

Unfortunately we are human and we often oppose change of any kind, if we allow change we can grow as people and perhaps become the better for it. I didn't like all the Orange to start with but as that is SX Color I see why it is there and I am slowly getting used to it, there are far greater benefits in this new forum and I love it personally as I discover new things. The New Posts section is frustrating I get it down and it creeps back up again.

Keep up the good work Tim and Dehawkins,

Sandra

I think that this new forum looks more sharp than the other one. However, across the board, either forum was very, very effective. I am very pleased with the work that Tim has done with it. :)

Orange use to be my least favorite color. But I do like oranges quite a bit. I've grown a tolerance to orange I can handel it on this forum.

Do think having a forum is a major plus for any traffic exchange. You can learn about issues with the TE very quickly.

Hi Noemi,

If you want to start a new thread within a forum, simply click on http://forums.startxchange.com/images/ca_evo2_orange/buttons/newthread.gif button at the top of the forum.

To view all the posts you have started in a forum, go to the forum, and at the bottom in section entitled display options, select Sorted by and choose the Thread starter option - you can choose to view in either ascending (A-Z) order or descending (Z - A) order, and how far back to go in the forum.

If you subscribe to all threads you start / reply to (the option for this is at the bottom of the reply section when replying or starting a thread) then you can view the threads you are subscribed to by going to the User CP (http://forums.startxchange.com/usercp.php) at the top of the forum pages, select List Subscriptions under Subscribed Threads in the menu down the left, and then at the top of the list of subscribed threads you can choose to view by Thread (http://forums.startxchange.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription&pp=20&folderid=0&order=asc&sort=title) or Thread Starter (http://forums.startxchange.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription&pp=20&folderid=0&order=asc&sort=postusername) or Last Post (http://forums.startxchange.com/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription&pp=20&folderid=0&order=desc&sort=lastpost)
by clicking on the little http://forums.startxchange.com/images/ca_evo2_orange/buttons/sortasc.gif or http://forums.startxchange.com/images/ca_evo2_orange/buttons/sortdesc.gif arrow next to the sort criteria you can change between ascending and descending order.

Hope this helps :)

If you goto your Profile (Quick Links - My Profile), there is then a "Find all threads started by ..." link, click it and it'll show all your threads you started and it'll show highlighted the ones that are newly replied ;-)

You can also subscribe to threads. In the profile you can set it to auto-subscribe threads you post in, and then you can goto Quick LInks - Subscribed Threads and they are all there for you. Then you can also unsubscribe from threads you don't want to hear about anymore ;-)
