Team Contest - Weekly or Monthly?

Hi All

I'm thinking about changing the contests to be weekly rather than monthly. It seems having it monthly the prizes are a whole month apart. Changing it to weekly will create more of a buzz.

Since they'd be more often, the jackpot would be smaller but I could either increase the % or reduce it to 1/2 winners each category rather than 3. But then again being weekly if it brings more activity it would make the jackpot higher anyways.

So please vote, and post any comments concerns!

I agree - I've completely lost interest in the monthly competitions since I left power surfers to go to surfin bunnies because of the level of participation required to make it in the top 3 spots each month. I mean it's terrific if you have time to surf 24/7, 7 days a week - but most of us don't have that kind of time to be able keep up surfing all day every day. So I feel weekly competitions would be a lot more interesting, and would allow everyone a fair shot at winning some extra credits :)

Either way for me...maybe a Mini contest every week & a major for monthly....of course credit need to be monitor....Monthly contest(If win) gives me a huge achievement feeling & weekly contest gives almost every team something to look forward to.

When you see your team too far behind and getting monthly contest is impossible at least there is still weekly contest to fight for.

Weekly offers a better chance for more different winners because it is easier to maintain surfing strength for a week than for a month.

I say skip on doing both, but if we switch to weekly, I'd like my view on my team page to show weekly AND monthly surf totals for each of the members. Actually, I'd like to see that even if we stuck with monthly contest. Even if my team isn't of the 'surf all day' kind, I do like to watch activity.

I really like the idea of a weekly contest. Gives more of the teams who start out strong at the beginning a chance to win something, instead of losing their position, as team members start to lose their interest in surfing as much towards the middle of the month.

It also give members more of an incentive to join up with a team and continue to be an active member within that team.

I agree with going to weekly contests. I think doing weekly contests gives different teams a chance to win and something for everyone to look forward to...... I also think doing weekly contests takes the pressure off of having to be a #1 team every month.

I voted weekly, partly for the reasons everyone else gave; but also for several additional reasons:

1. Some people surf 100's of exchanges and they might only surf SX during 1 week of the month.

2. Members won't have to feel guilty if they get sick, have a short-term special work project, or take a vacation because it will only affect the contests during the time they are actually out.

3. It will eliminate all the cutthroat last-minute marathon surfing to blow other teams out of the water

I like the idea of weekly competition. I think it will make it more exciting. (it looks as if that is the winning concensus.) Winning the monthly competition is definitely a big goal and awesome when you are a winner. Tough to do. Either way, competition is great.

As nlash said, not everybody has the time to surf 24/7. And not forget we should use OTHER advertising methods as well. This was the reason I quit the team, although I do surf at least 200 a day. There was too much pressure to stay and click.

I gladly welcome the weekly team competitions as it makes it more interesting. Monthly comps tend to seem so long and there's loss of surfing enthusiasm when the month seems so long to go.

I voted for weekly, but don't like the contest. Can't see a fair way that they can be conducted. I surf as many pafes as I can each day for the sake of "credits" and to see if I see some advertisement that interest me.

I guess I compete in the monthly contest by default - I don't really keep track of when they start nor end or who is winning or loosing.

Idea: Tim can you make a graph that show each team's standings on a daily bases or that is "live" it up dates actively as we surf? Maybe color code each team on a bargraph? Not that I am fund of contest, just like gadgets with lights and bells and such. Remember the old computers with the lights that flash as the "Data" changed, way cool! I would surf just to watch the lights and the bars move :)

If I had it to do all over again I would have chose to keep it monthly
I think there are too many errors in the script

I would also like to be able to give out the credits to my team members myself.
This way I know that each team member did receive credits, the right amount as well as them knowing that I am doing my job as their team leader
