I need help!

I am new to banners and need help.I tried to add my banner to the site,it is the standard size that rotates in the surfbar,but when I tried to add it my banner did appear in the right boxit was very tiny.Was it supposed to be this way or did I mess up somehow?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks
