Note: Today at 9AM EST a bonus hour started, but the notification did not go through to Twitter. I apologize. I didn't realize it wouldn't update if the message was the same, so it now includes the time of the bonus hour ;-)

I subscribed to Twitter to get a notice when there's a bonus hour.

However, does it only work with SMS and that kind of devices?
Will I receive an email if there is a bonus hour?
That would be best for me as I don't use SMS.

You have to be logged in to Twitter to get the Twitter announcements if you don't enable SMS.

You would have to keep refreshing the twitter page if you went the web method. However, there are a small handful of applications that let you view new tweets without opening your browser, as well as including the ability to post tweets to your account. The one I use is found at twhirl.org (not an affiliate link). When I have new messages to view, it 'dings' and pops up a little window in the corner of my screen.

I don't know what AKH is doing. I got tired of empty promises there. I got a lot of referrals, but it seems like I was getting referral rejects.

What I mean is. Can you program SX to tell people about the bonus hours? It just seems like an extra step outside the system that I have to get in the habit of doing, if I really want to know when the bonus hours are. But then, I haven't worried too much about when other people are surfing. I'm going to surf when I'm going to surf.

This setup is fine for anyone who has Twitter - and happens to be logged in - or for someone who surfs with their cell phone next to their desk (or even has a cell phone).

Guess those of us with no interest in getting a Twitter account (I don't particularly care to trade a bunch of "what are you doing now" messages with ANYONE), and/or don't have a cell phone are just out of luck.

Guess being a SX member isn't enough to warrant being notified with a PM.

OR...Just a general notice in the bottom bar when the "Bonus Hours" are in effect would be helpful even if nobody noticed that their Surfing Bonus had increased by 10%!

I think this is a good idea, but the twitter thing needs some tweaking. Either somebody is already surfing and just going to be benefiting anyway without the twitter warning, or it's very likely to be too late when they get the message. Nobody can be constantly checking the twitter website and most applications interfacing with Twitter have a limit on how often they can ping for updates (forget time to skim through each fresh batch of messages).

I am sure after giving his plan some serious thought about expecting the membership to join another program for "Bonus Hours Alerts," he will come to the realization that it's not practical nor an advantageous manner in which to implement this new benefit!

Most people join exchanges for the benefits and ease of use...They are not necessarily willing to jump through more hoops to receive additional activity points...

Perhaps he will opt for another way that does not involve joining a program outside of SX...

Hi All

Sorry about not thinking of alternative ways of notifying you! I thought it would send emails via Twitter as well, but apparently not!

I'm going to be re-thinking the way it's done. I might have an optional "opt in" notification thing.. I just don't want to be emailing 40,000 people every few hours and getting spam complaints from those who don't want to know!

Would it be possible to add it to quick links?
So when clicked on, it tells you something like
" Next Bonus hour starts at xx:xx ET"
or
"Just finished - check this link again in x hours"

Then you would only have to email everyone once about the change, and add a bit to FAQ for new/existing members to read :D

Then its up to us all just to click on quick links to find out

Just to let you know, I'm still working on this. Before I send out the emails I'm making sure I have the mail system up to par with current bounce & spam standards. This way I can mail out and not get blacklisted =P
