For those who missed the rules in the old forum, there is a simple guideline to advertising in the forum - DON'T

You may post links ONLY if they are relevant to the topic, and illustrate or enhance the answer you are giving.

eg. a Good example would be:
Q. How do I make a splash page
A. See my video tutorial on making splash pages HERE

a Bad example would be:

Q. How do I make a splash page
A. Join my company, and use our programs splash page to make your first million HERE

The second example is going to get your post editted, and possibly you an infraction served if it is deemed too inappropriate

NOTE: one method sure to get yourself an infraction (as one lucky member found out) is to post a blatant advert in the forum

eg. Join our program and discover the secrets of becoming the next net guru

REMEMBER:
You may post up to 4 links in your signature, so keep your advertising there, and on the traffic exchange :)

Thx Richard

For a needed and pertinent reminder.

Thank you Richard

I look at the forum as going to a coffee shop or similar thing with a group of like minded friends, discussing and talking without any pressure then having the waitress come over and give a full on sales pitch about what the department store down the road has on offer. I have the same opinion about being PM'd by people I do not know to join there TE or program, if I know the person they always ask first prior to sending you anything, but to just send me stuff without my consent is pure Spam and against the TOS of SX

Keep up the good work, we are behind you 100%,

Wow 3 days without SX I'd have withdrawal symptoms:D:D Good thing I don't do that.

Well it's 3 days out of the forum, so you can still get your surfing fix. The idea is if you spam the forum, you won't be allowed to keep doing it.

Surfing is only half a fix for me. I need my forum fix also. Of course I am pretty safe because the most I post is that I am into PTR's and I have a gift web site. I have been in many Yahoo groups that do not even like links in the signiture.

These rules are not hard to follow.
People who post their ads in the forum are usually new and inexperienced. When you have been here for a while you don't want to see a lot of ads here (that's what we have the TEs for!) and you don't want to do to others what you don't want them to do to you.

I am fairly new to StartXchange and TEs in general so I appreciate these words of wisdom. Maybe it is here somewhere and maybe I missed it, but a quick guide for new members may be a good thing. There is much to learn and do here.

Thanks again.

Those are easy rules. Clear and to the point. If we all help the "newbies" then the forum will stay great and fun.

Yes, LeAnna...Your signature (up to 4 lines) will be shown everytime you post in the forum and it gets shown in PMs as well...If you have marked your "Thread Display Options" (User CP) like so:

If you have created a signature, you can choose on a per post basis if you want to include it or not - the option will usually be at the bottom, underneath the reply box, if it is not visible, click on the Go Advanced link to open up the hidden options :)

so for example, although I usually show my signature, just for this post I have turned it off ;)

It seems some people still do not get the idea about advertising :(

There are now two people serving a ban from the forum for spamming.

Be very assured of this, I do notice, and people do report abuse. And action WILL be taken!!

If you would rather not have access to the forum or your PMs, just tell me or Tim, and we will remove the forum access for you, no problem.

Ignorance by the way is no defence, if you don't read and understand the rules before posting, you will soon understand when we take action.

There is a support address where you can contact us if you have any questions, or want clarification - I don't penalise people for asking questions, I consider it a far more sensible approach than 'post and hope'

I can totally relate. Sometimes I don't have time you read a lot, but I do admit this traffic exchange is a whole lot more fun because of the people that go along with it. Otherwise it would be like looking at commercials all day.

I would've been totally lost without this place when I started. it was you guys that helped me figure out what in the world I gotten myself into. I can't imagine jeopardizing that kind of a treasure.

Thanks for the reminder just in case I forget. ;) And thank you Kayla for putting it so eloquently, as in the subject title for my post.

What do you mean? I, for one, don't understand what you are trying to do. If you could elaborate, this will help.

I believe if you have your Signature File set up, that is all you need. If forum members want to join your business/program they can do so freely without coercion from you.

Am I right?:)

I agree. You can either have 4 links with each having a little copy... or you can have 1 link with a lot of copy. I would opt for 1 link if you were really trying get people to signup for this banner rotation. You probably need to offer more incentive than just put your banner on my site. You would probably want to include a link to recent traffic stats from Google Analytics. They will also want to know placement and total number of banners in the rotation. If you get 1000 page views per day, and there are 500 banners in the rotation, then it is unlikely anyone would want to signup due to lack of exposure for their banner. I also looked at the site, and it appears that you have your referral link right under the banners. I would remove that link.

New member like me should come on the thread which inform for DOs & DON'Ts.

Actually the thread example is also a promotion but with modesty... I guess all that gives reference is advertisement, like Q&A's those are leading to a reference (which is a sort of advertisement) or making a discussion that points to a location or reference (that is also sort of advertisement) but to make the rules more simplify is to make it "not so obvious" in putting ADs (like the thread example)

"Elaboration that may irritate on a particular reference, that is banned here"

Try taking a look at the New User Forum Thread...And actually, if done correctly, 4 lines in the signature should be adequate for advertising in the Forum Community...

Creating Splash Pages thru the use of TEtoolbox and adding them into rotation is the best way to advertise your affiliate programs, products and services on Traffic Exchanges...

And do not forget to assign credits if you want them to be shown...
If you don't have time to surf, you can also buy traffic...

Are there limits as to how many characters or lines can be used in your sig... I've been to some forums that have a 250 character limits and some with 4 line limits...

I know that there is a 4 link limit, but how long can the ads be?

The main purpose of joining a Traffic Exchange is so you can "promote" your sites and build up a network in exchange for other members who also want you to see what they have to offer as well...

So consider being allowed to add your 4 lines of "advertising" in the forum a bonus since not all TEs have forums for their members to network with each other!
