Hi All

Many exchanges have the first page in rotation sold as a special daily or weekly advertising package. StartXchange used to have it done as a monthly rotator. What do you think the value is now?

IE: Would you pay $10/day, $50/week, $200/month? Your thoughts please!

I don't have money to pay for advertising so like the ones where we can use credits in an auction style. These are daily. Your exchange is far too good and far too big for that though. Weekly would probably be best for you and the advertisers. So $50/$60 a week is fair. ie $10 a day with discount for a week.

You seem to have started the personal splash page maker and the floating action button but others have marketed them better. Are they taking your ideas?

I think if you made it $10 for the day it would be attainable by more people.
From a business stand point, that would have to be your decision.

I have noticed that prices for the sponsor page range far and wide from only $5 for a week to $60 dollars for a week

I have only used the lower priced ones in the past but think that if the money was available I would pay $50 a week.

I think it should be something that is won. At some other exchanges there's an auction for it. At others it's given as a prize for most referrals or surfing the most during a day. Or it could be something added to the Claim a Prize page.

Hmm all good ideas! Combining it..

$10 for single days
$60 for a week straight ($10 discount)
chance of winning on a prize page (would have to be less often as there would only be so many days, and some would be purchased)

Right now I'm tracking the stats to see how many hits it would get. Ideally the price would be based on this.

I personally have found no additional value to the start page. I have purchased or won start pages in several exchanges and have not seen any increase in sign-ups or purchases. So I no longer bother.

I would think they would have even less value here in SX, because the way you have our site delivery setup everything is distributed fairly evenly throughout the day, which increases the chance that every member will have an opportunity to see them no matter what time of day they surf. If you set a high daily delivery the chances are better than if you have a low delivery rate, but at least during the course of a week you should be able to hit pretty much everyone.

The exchanges that start pages would make sense are those that require you to set up autodelivery, because in those your credits are assigned as you surf and are pretty much delivered while you surf (unless you have banked some credits and don't assign them until you're ready to logout). In those cases a start page would be of more value because then you would be sure to catch each member at least once per day no matter when they login.

Just my opinion, FWIW.

I think $50 a week is a good bargin I don't think I would sell it for a month though

The success of start pages depends on a couple factors: whether the page is attracting in the first place, the traffic exchange itself, and the TE membership.
I would be willing to try it out here because I feel StartXChange attracts good surfers that would actually take the moment to evaluate my page.

Would there be a discount for upgraded members?

I don't have a pay pal account so I have to win front page auctions;)

Got on that I've been winning for just 26 credits.

Should follow my own advice and not get into bidding wars.

Got into a bidding war last week and then realized the TE the guy was promoting had front page avalable for just 51 credits.

I have used front-page ads, and have had some click throughs - so they do work to an extent.

I see them more as a 'branding' issue than a sales issue - ie people start to see me so often that I am more likely to be thought of when they are thinking of webdesign work / hosting.

I would certainly consider it if Tim were to offer it, depending on pricing obviously :)

I feel that the start page is just that "a start page" not many people are interested in ads when they go their start pages, they are just interested in surfing.
There are othe exchanges that place an auction and you bid for it, which is great if you want that.
I also don't feel that it is worth that type of monies for a week, day or month. That is just only my opinion.
Thanks for allowing us to share

I'd have to say no price value - I like having the checklist appear - part because I want to know how to get a higher bonus - and part because I'm so used to having it there (it's oddly discomforting to see it gone)

$10 a day would be fine. BUt I'm not convinced that it make much difference. It has the advantage of getting seen by people who only surf one or two pages, but they are not the sort of referrals I want.

Cheers

If I consider SX as one of my online Advertising Agencies, I'd say
$20 per week would be honest, along with discounts on further
purchases. Like said Ameastre above, multiple factors have to be
taken into consideration.
Heavy hitters view the home page before starting their daily task,
slow hitters view it too. So day after day my pages are viewed, that's
all about branding myself.

Sneak Peak:

You'll be able to buy a day for $10, or bid for the day with credits. Bidding part is done, not the buying part though. So if you want, go ahead and try the bid process. This is in *BETA* so if any problems come up, post here for now. It's time for dinner and then I'll be out for the night so hopefully it works smoothly =P

I miss informed someone in TB chat land that the minimum bid was 100. So I burned up 101 on my first bid and then put in a bunch of punies LOL.

I have no money to purchase it, so I would prefer to win it, maybe in Claim a prize page.
