Hi

You can now report private messages. There is a report link next to the reply link. If you receive an advertisement via the PM system please report it.

Hi Tim,

I think it's righest to report an advertisement PM, but think also it's very difficult to damn either an our collegue or an our teammate for only 1 error.

So, I hope I'll never receice an advertisement PM.

Thanks for your time.

I think the right thing to do is to explain in a polite way that such promotion is not wanted. If the person won't respect your message, it could be time to send in a report. You now have a way to do it if you think it's in place.

Also note that members aren't banned immediately for doing it. Only after repeated spams. For instance one member who so far has been banned twice already from spamming.. He had 3 warnings from us before it got to a ban. So don't feel bad about reporting it if you have to =P

So Tim,

Do may I tell him/her is in error the first time I'll receive a PM advertising from anyone and don't report him/her for it (I mean the first time)?

This way I think it will be better.

It's up to you I guess, but I wouldn't dream of reporting anyone the first time. Instead I ask the person politely not to do it.
If I want to know someone about their business, I ask them for information. If they want to introduce me to theirs, it would be wise to ask permission first, but not before we had a more personal connection.

It's up to you. It should be clear that PMs aren't for advertising, but if you want to give them an extra chance go for it =P

Question - all I ever here from my upline is when he gets into a new TE and wants me to join under him.

Never have had a welcome message from him, just these TE messages.

Would you consider that inappropriate use of the messaging system?

I think so. PMing your downline is for informative messages or, obviously, for private conversation. If there's any kind of promotion it should be informative messages about new features and how to make it better here. In StartXchange.
I wouldn't dream of abusing the PM system for promotion unless the conversation makes it natural, but even then it should be kept "low key" (As should any promotion, if you value a good report with your prospects).

Thanks for the update Tim.

Hi Adam. If it was me, I would Pm my upline first and let them know how I felt about not getting their Welcome message, and go from there.

Have an awesome day everyone :)

Thanks Donna and Inge

It has been so long ago since I joined that I doubt I'd get a welcome message however I'll bet I have earned them a lot of credits from their downline.

I think it'd help , especially with the new waiting period, if there was a pm to the team leader when some one joins the team. I generally notice changes when I do an evening screenshot to track team progress, but sometimes I'm too tired to catch on then.

Though I think I'm most excited about the person who gets a hold of me first, shows they have a lot of potential. ;)

I agree - I think would be a great idea, especially when your team is 100+ members. It can be hard keeping track of them all at times.

Think it's great idea. Too many people abuse this feature. Wish other sites would add it to their message system

What's the waiting period about? Care to explain?

Hahaha! No welcome message from arthouse after joining his team. Could be busy trying to break through to Level 1.

The waiting period is if you leave a team, you have to wait 30 days before you can join another.

For a team that's open for anyone to join, keeping track of new members (and those who leave) takes so much time that at least some team leaders just don't do it. That's why we want a PM about it so we can send a message. The message could also be automatic, sending a note to the leader as well.

I didn't think it over, but it's quite possible that we haven't gotten any new member since this update. Since we're private, it doesn't happen very often now! :)

Our newest members joined around March 25th.
