Hi,

Do will our old and new forum activity points be an unique number?

Once the change is made, the points will be from the NEW Forum only ;-)

Why?

It seems not right to me. We made a certain job in old forum and now we are losing it?

Thanks

The reason is actually quite simple - the two forums were written on different scripts, and the old forum script is not compatable with the new forum script.

If Tim were to try and import the stats manually, it would be very time consuming as there are no less than 36,200 members to check for forum activity points

Hope this helps explain why we all have a clean slate here :)

If it's any comfort, it will be the same for everyone -- except everyone won't lose the same amount of points! :)
If you keep posting, you'll still build up a nice amount of points in time.

I'm with Inge on this, it will help those of us who are active on this new forum. Some people who have been posting for years but perhaps have a lot of forum activity points will not be clogging up the system.

We should all try to be as high up as we can be before the numbers change.

Cheers

Grant

I hope to be able to figure out a way to have only posts in the past month or two count, rather than over all time. After all the idea is to have it based off recent activity! If I get that to work, then I can remove the cap on forum points.

Possibly, it would be worth closing the threads (from new entries) but watching to see if they are still being read ...

Then maybe remove closed threads not accessed for 2 - 3 months?

That way older informative threads would not be 'lost' until members have a chance to request a sticky to keep the pertinent info.

.... just a thought
Overall, I agree with the concept of removing older threads ... for two reasons:
1) It will keep your DB size managable
2) Just reducing the 'clutter' keeps the forum more readable.

Of course, I may have misunderstood .... were you talking about the activity points from posts, or the posts themselves?

If it was the former, wouldn't it be (relatively) simple to add some code to 'age' forum points? Then ... if points_age < 60 (days) value = value, else value = 0
