Hi All
What would you think about free members having to view an upgraded member's website for 15 seconds rather than 10?

Edit: Overall how satisified are you with the 10 second timer?

An an option, sure, but not absolutely. I think members should be encouraged to use smaller pages that can be assessed within the current 10 seconds, though I do understand why longer time can be beneficial.

Please no to either idea. 10 seconds is time enough to view these ads.

I say "No" to both also.

Increasing free members timer/decreasing upgraded members timer could be seen as an added incentive to be upgraded, you could even stagger it so that Gold members had a 12 second timer and Platinum had a 10 second timer.
However it would slow traffic delivery by around 40% (allowing for the fact pages don't load instantly and members don't load the next page as soon as the timer hits zero)
so I would say I have mixed feelings about the idea.

Well, if a member is interested to view a site that they came across, they will stay longer to check it out. So, I also say No.

It is an interesting idea. But it would disrupt the rhythm.
As a musical person, I would not like that much :D
I mean, you see pages of free members and pages of upgraded members.
So you get different timers mixed up.
IF you decide to do it, I think the EasyHits4U way is a better way to go.
The upgraded member has the choice, at the cost of higher credits per page.
The surfer also has the choice, whether to see the longer timed page or not.

I think it would have to be no for me also it may mean the free members dont want to surf so much and they may see it as unfair. Interesting thought would upgraded members have to view other upgraded members sites for 15 secs too?

I think that would discourage your free members. I know if I were not upgraded and you did that, I would find somewhere else to surf...There are lots of sites for free members to view pages for 10 seconds. I think 15 seconds is too long for surfers to view any site...It gets boring enough to view a page for 10 seconds after you have viewed it many many times already anyway!

If you want to increase everyone's timer, I would be fine with that.
I also really appreciate the 10 second timer now that we have it (and I voted against it).
I would also have to agree with Tizzy, it could really discourage the free members from surfing - and some of them really have at it.
Besides, I think you give us enough of a good incentive to upgrade - random referrals, extra credits, free upgrade with TE Toolbox - what more should we really ask for?

So overall how satisified are you with the 10 second timer?
FYI: I'm not planning on going lower or higher, just trying to discuss the topic since it seems to be a hot topic in various areas these days. Getting feedback here gives me more member input, and in other forums more owner input. So it's great to hear what everyone thinks about the subject.

Hi Tim,
If we free member keep standing free, I think a reason has to be!
Penalty with a longer timer? I think we are accepting it as your decision and keeping standing free, if we can't upgrade.
Thanks for your time.

I think it may be a good idea for the 15 second timers maybe more folks would upgrade as well. I know I would if I knew folks would spend more time on my site. I have 4 exchanges that I do with 20 - 30 second timers and I like them more then the 10 second sites. I think its because I know folks are really seeing the sites I am promoting.
Hilda
I surf some other sites besides StartXchange, and some of them have 20 second views. When I do one round through all the TEs in a tabbed browser, there's just enough time for the 20s counters to complete a cycle. Also, I don't have to wait for sites to load. If the view time for StartXchange was longer I would put it with the others in the tabbed browser and still get about the same amount of views as the next person.

I prefer the ten seconds.
Truly 10 and 30 thirty seconds make little difference between love and hate, but a longer time will make me love less a site I dislike. I would not upgrade because of an extended timer. I want to re-emphasize, people need to be encouraged to create their own page, both for the sake reducing load time and making their advertisement stand out. The unique page will always get more of my attention over another long loading one and it will not need more than ten seconds for me to decide.

ABsolutely NOT!
10 seconds is good enough for all members...
Changing the timer would be a discouragement
and you want more people to surf rather than
turning them away...

No to both. 10 seconds is the perfect amount. More is too much, less is too little.

Might be a good idea that benefit the upgraded member. I don't really mind as I already surfing another TE with a 15 sec timer. :)

I vote no as well. If it ain't broke...don't fix it :D
When I see a site that interests me, I usually open it in a different window which allows me to keep surfing

Would really make no difference to me, but do have to agree that it would seem that free members were being penalized for not being upgraded members or were in a sense forcing members to upgrade so they wouldn't have the 15 second timer.
10 seconds is good enough for me to scan a site, if it catches my attention than I just open in a new window or jot down the web address to look into after I am done surfing for the day/evening.

It would be a great way to penalize the member who have not upgraded. If thats the point.

I vote NO to longer surf clock for Free members.

LOL
reading this thread reminds me of the old question - is your glass half empty or half full?
put another way, it is interesting to see if members view it as a longer timer for free members, or a shorter timer for upgraded members.

10 sec timer is fine, people need to move to splash pages and stop using full site home pages in general. Bookmarking can be done if there is any interest for the future. Also, when someone is viewing a basic affiliate page being run by 40 different people, and has to sit and see it 40 times for 15sec?
BAD IDEA!

No! 10 seconds is more than enough as after a while you have seen the same site over and over again.

10 or 15 seconds are ok with me. But PLEEESE never go below 10. It should be the same timer for all whichever way you go.
You might put an "add to favourites" on the surfbar.

10 seconds timer is enough and is good for me.
10 seconds for see ad is enough to know what it promote and I don't think that 15 seconds timer will change something very good for free members. Anyway if a member want to see a special site...he can open it in a new window and look at it as long he wants.
