View Full Version : Another Rotator Question

When a rotator is used, are the sites rotated randomly or are they rotated in the order they are listed in the rotator?

Are all of the sites shown just once as they are being rotated or are some shown multiple times?:confused:

Depends on the rotator. Mine for instance, shows the sites in random order but I decide the probabilities (weights) for each.

As Inge mentioned it does depend on the rotator
and also the weight (1 - 10) which indicates how
many times a site will be shown in rotation...

Aye Up from Kevin in Sheffield

I use Pageswirl and leave it to rotate in numerical order. I don't use weights .... trying to lose weight anyway.

As has been said, it depends on the rotator.

some will allow you to modify the priority of sites, others do not.
some will display sites sequentially, some randomly
some will try to balance the delivery so giving more views to sites with fewer views.
and there are mixtures of all these delivery methods.

So, what does TeToolBox do?

TEToolbox allows you to weight a site priority.

The options are High, Medium, Low, Paused

Although I am not sure of the precise calculations Tim programmed in, a simply way of working out the priority is to give them a mark out of 6:
High = 3/6
Medium = 2/6
Low = 1/6
Paused = 0/6

Therefore if you had 6 sites in the rotator, and they were assigned weighting as follows:

site 1 = High
site 2 = Medium
site 3 = Low
site 4 = Low
site 5 = Paused
site 6 = High

and you had 100 views of your rotator, you would expect (roughly) the views to be as follows:

site 1 = 30 views
site 2 = 20 views
site 3 = 10 views
site 4 = 10 views
site 5 = 0 views
site 6 = 30 views

NOTE: if you set all the sites to the same weighting, they will all get the same number of views no matter if you set them to High, Medium, or Low

Hi,

I set all my rotators as "sequential", so all my sites are receiving the same number of hits.

My rotator is also random

Question: let's say I'm a free member of a TE that allows 3 URL only.
Is it better to only put my TEToolBox rotator URL that has 7 URL inside,
all weighted the same, or choose 3 separate URL that I'd change from time to time?

The answer to that is 'it depends'

If you want all 7 urls to be viewed equally and the TE timer is long enough (10+ seconds), then submit your rotator.

If you have a shorter timer, or you want to emphasise a particular set of sites to that exchange, then use separate urls.

Thanks, dehawquinz.
If the TE is a 10 timer, I'll put 2 URLs: my TETB one and another one when I want to emphazise on, my choice to change it from time to time.
Quite clear now, thx again.
However and this leads to another discussed thread I guess, timer on 10 finally reduces our choice. It's good for TEs: the shorter is the timer, the more members are clicking, the more TE owners get a high ranking.
However what about interest in member's webpages? We learnt rotators are slower at uploading, separate pages are faster. May be 10sc are too short, upon a marketer point of vue.
We all have here sign-ups in target, whatever is the ranking of our preferred TE.

You may be surprised gide83. In my experience I've found the TEs with 6-10s timer are the most responsive for building my list. I don't use rotators or affiliate pages, but I use splash pages and lead capture pages.

If you are tracking the effectiveness of your advertising campaign, I suggest you use a splash page or a lead capture page. Also, do take a look at this thread (http://forums.startxchange.com/showthread.php?t=608) and see what the experienced surfers are doing.

That's why I always use splash pages in 10sc TE and track my hits/clicks with TEToolBox. I notice I have good results with a 30sc TE, so it's not really exact science. May be I'll use Statcounter that I had used last year, you're right.

I use rotators wherever possible. That way if you need to pause a site or add a new one you only have to do it on the rotator. Also, you can always add the rotator more than once if you are allowed more than one site.
At the moment I have 5 rotators. One I use for saturation advertising. For instance, if you join a new program or exchange, you can fill one rotator with all the splash pages that program gives you so every site on that rotator advertisers the same program.

Hope that helps.
