-- at work today about 1:15 pm. (Lunchtime for quite a few!)
Quickly it became obvious it was real, not a test
So out we troop to the assembly area, the few fire marshalls quickly established where everyone was - All accounted for phew!

Fire engine arrives, investigation finds (gulp!) -- the problem is in the Server Room - but not a real fire

Next Question - OK (says a fireman) But who's got a security key to the room?

Silence is golden :D
Then a flurry of where are our 2 IT guys (there, everywhere BUT NOT HERE) what's their mobile number - anyone know it? - WE NEED YOU

At last, an IT turns up with said key looking a bit sheepish

Problem solved (took an hour in all for us standing in a cold wind - at least no rain)

The morale is well - ermm - Either IT cover all working hours or they need a few more trusted keyholders:D

Anyone into IT -- Could the same happen where you work?

LOL

reminds me of the last non-test activation of our fire alarm system - it was set off by the security guy burning his breakfast toast in his toaster in the gatehouse. (our fire assembly point ironically is.........

Next to the gatehouse!!

However, to cap it all - the alarm went off at 6:15am, we could not get hold of someone with the control code to switch off the alarm until 8:30am - so we had to work with the alarm going off for nearly 2 hours!!

I remember when I worked in the hospitals we used to have alarms so sensitive that spiders would set them off I kid you not can you imagine a whole ward evacuated and fire trucks out for a SPIDER!!

LOL I interned in the IT Department of the local school district for a little while, and the network administrator would come in about 11AM and stay for a few hours and leave. The rest of the guys in there did alot of gaming.. In fact, they all had gaming rigs (even the secretary who was told to hide the surround sound speakers so people coming in wouldn't notice their over the top systems).

Not too long after leaving there a new boss came in and fired all but one of them!

:p we did wonder about someone sending an email to the IT desk
just to see how long the reply would take
Firmen laughed and said no way!:D
