I am a Fastmail client and I found this on their blog.
http://blog.fastmail.fm/2008/04/22/microsoft-closing-external-hotmail-access-by-end-of-june-2008/
Anyone who uses Outlook, MSN or Hotmail should be aware of this.
I don't use my Outlook and my Hotmail account is very old, I just go in to delete the junk about once a month. Think I will forward any mail that I still need to Fastmail(addresses as well) then empty and close the account.

Hi.
It is kind of sad...but its one step forward, everything is being renewed, not only at Microsoft but on other platforms to.
The other great mail service Yahoo, its on its way to do the same.
The Outlook Express feature is an old application that less and less people uses, and soon no more support will be a reality (not now but within a few years time), today its taken over by Windows Live and Windows Live Hotmail, it will still be free.
If you use Microsoft Office, you have Outlook installed, all you need then, if you use Outlook ... is an connector that can be found on this site : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7aad7e6a-931e-438a-950c-5e9ea66322d4&displaylang=en
Of course some people (who mostly like to make waves) makes a little thing to a big problem, like that Fastmail blog who says - to stop using Hotmail and close your account there, but I cant see the big problem, its just another step ahead, look at Yahoo!, what they are planning/have done, they call it Yahoo! Mail Plus...if you want to use pop..: http://mailplus.mail.yahoo.com/
But thanks for bringing this up...reminds us to start going over to Windows Live...with the same id :)

I don't use Outlook either...Just AOL9.0 Optimized and Hotmail (updated version)
Granted I might not have access to web mail but that is no big deal for me...
The ongoing problem for me is other person(s) who are using my email address which I have had since 1988...Wish there was some way to keep that from happening!
Anyway, thanks for the headsup!
God Bless and Keep on surfing everyday~!

I don't use Outlook or any email from Microsoft, just the computer I'm using is Windows. ;) I prefer the Incredimail email client.
Yahoo hasn't allowed pop access for free accounts for a couple years now I believe. Doesn't matter so much now for me though. Yahoo is taking the wrong way about spam prevention for free accounts and paying customers get pop access included.
In any case, a marketers best friend is Gmail...for now. Granted Google has a tough fight keeping up deliverability without getting accused of failing to stop spam, but that's nothing new. Then there is of course getting your own email address (your own domain with a reliable host), but sometimes it still is better to go with gmail.

I use gmail, which I then POP to my computer anyway, so I get a double-copy in case of problems :)
I do not particularly like webmail accounts, which is the other reason for POPing it to my computer.

I use gmail for one of my accounts, and it's an excellent service. I have yet to receive spam on that account, and usually it comes very quickly after an account is opened.
For services that don't offer POP mail, IMAP is a good alternative. If your client allows copying/moving messages you can still save them locally.
I don't particularly love webmail either, but it's a good backup solution.

Am I alone? - got so many free email accounts I can't remember them all let alone my login name and password!
As the spam builds up in one account, it gets dropped and I use another new one lol
Then I change my sites I want to keep to the new email addy
OK - so soph is jamming up servers lol - hard luck spammers! ( oh and I better say those freebie email sites - gmail is good, AOL is Bad spamwise)
